D2 Hollow – the next generation brake kit is here!
Now, D2’s Hollow calipers have been on the market for a few years – and they have already proven their outstanding performance in racing, time attack, and track days.
With great success in the Swedish Time Attack series and proven results on race tracks, this marks a new era for D2’s brake technology.
Like a spiderweb, the design wraps around the brake disc to provide maximum cooling, extreme torsional rigidity, and low weight. The result?
A braking system that delivers unmatched precision and durability – at a highly competitive price.
Why upgrade to a Big Brake Kit (BBK)?
Brakes, alongside tires, are one of the most important components on a car. They convert kinetic energy into heat energy in the discs before a corner or to stop in front of an obstacle on the road. We assume everyone understands the importance of good brakes, so we’ll jump straight to why you want to upgrade your brakes to a BBK.
Modern braking systems are not designed for the weight and power of today’s cars under hard driving. They are designed to handle a limited number of heavy stops before the system becomes so hot that various types of fade (complete or partial loss of braking) occur.
The first effect is that you need to press harder on the pedal towards the end of braking to maintain deceleration – this is early pad fade. MANY of these effects CAN be caused by neglected maintenance or subpar OE pads, which quickly get so hot that their performance decreases or fails entirely.
Maintaining and making small upgrades to your OE brake system can go a long way, but all brake systems eventually reach a point where they are simply not up to the task – regardless of upgrades.
You want to drive on track/race/track days – for this type of use, BBKs are very common and popular. You want to improve pedal feel – OE brake systems usually consist of simple, relatively weak single-piston calipers, soft spongey pads, and rubber hoses… none of which do wonders for your brake pedal, which feels soft, poorly dosed, and gives little to no feedback on what the brakes and tires are doing.
A BBK’s construction, with multi-piston calipers often machined from a single block and a large disc mounted on an aluminum bell, reduces unsprung weight and improves pedal feel. The much larger pad area in these kits lowers temperature and the risk of fade. A long list of improvements is possible with a well-dimensioned BBK and pads tailored to YOUR driving style...
A D2 Big Brake Kit gives you:
- Significantly improved braking performance and pedal response
- Increased heat resistance under hard driving
- Greatly reduced fade risk
- A sportier, more aggressive appearance
- Consistent and durable braking lap after lap
This is the upgrade for those who drive spiritedly, on the track, or want total control in every braking situation on the street.
D2 brake kits – top quality & proven performance
D2 offers brake kits with aluminum monoblock calipers, large ventilated two-piece discs, and steel-braided hoses. You get the same construction and feel as much more expensive systems, but at a more reasonable cost. We have worked directly with D2 since 2005, without middlemen – which means: Best price, fast delivery & a wide range of spare parts and expert support from people who drive on track themselves!
Several teams in the Time Attack series use D2 brake kits, including:
Wiborg Engineering, record holders on all Swedish tracks they’ve raced. Robin Antonsson, the fastest driver in the Pro class, Team Wigge Racing, Garage Gummisko, Robert Uhr, FWD record holder, and many more.
It is a clear testament to how effective D2’s braking systems are in extreme conditions.
D2 offers 2 years warranty on calipers without dust covers and 5 years with dust covers.
Options. Dust cover – with or without?
Dust cover: Choose with if you drive year-round, or without for maximum performance on the track.
Discs: Available as drilled (for street) or slotted (for track/racing).
Floating discs: Recommended for track cars – eliminates “pad knock-back” and provides consistent pedal feel.
With the new Hollow calipers, dust covers are now standard. These calipers work perfectly for year-round driving where you want extra protection against salt and dirt.
If you plan to race, look at the Hollow racing kits, which come without dust covers and are equipped with titanium pistons to handle the heat. They can be used at temperatures up to 1000 ℃ without deformation. Hollow Racing is available in sizes 286mm–380mm.
(330–356mm has a 6-piston caliper without dust cover, built to meet FIA requirements in international racing series)
As a cheaper alternative, D2’s Mono 8-piston caliper without dust cover is still available in sizes 330–356mm. If you use the car as a summer car or primarily for track days, these calipers are a great option. Keep in mind that dirt can more easily enter and MAY cause sticking pistons. This is not covered by warranty and is considered routine caliper maintenance. We supply all spare parts if you need to service your kit.
286mm–304mm kits come with 4-piston calipers, with or without dust cover.
330mm–356mm kits come with 6-piston calipers, with or without dust cover.
380mm has 8-piston calipers, with or without dust cover.
400–421mm has 8-piston calipers with dust cover (not for racing)
444mm has 12-piston calipers with dust cover (not for racing)
Floating disc?
Brake discs are always two-piece with an aluminum bell and a ventilated steel disc. Sizes 286mm–356mm come standard with a fixed mount using M8 bolts and nuts. In sizes 330–356mm, you can upgrade to a floating disc. Sizes 380mm and larger always come with floating discs.
A fixed disc works well in most cases, but if you drive your car on track, we recommend upgrading to a floating disc. When the disc gets hot, it wants to expand, but when attached to the “hub,” it cannot expand radially (outwards) and may warp. This causes the braking surface to no longer be parallel between the pads and pistons, pushing the caliper pistons back.
A floating disc primarily prevents the phenomenon called “pad knock-back,” where the pad moves inside the caliper under hard driving, pushing the pistons back and causing the pedal feel to change at the next braking instance. This can make the pedal travel longer when braking and, in extreme cases, require “pump braking” to regain full effect. Highly recommended for trackday cars, especially those with McPherson front suspension.
Based on experience with numerous customer kits who had “pad knock-back” problems with other brake setups (OE or aftermarket), choosing D2’s floating disc combined with Hollow calipers has completely solved the problem in all cases.
The disadvantage of floating discs is a slightly higher price. For track or racing use, it’s an obvious choice, and several of us at Street Performance use floating discs without issues – highly recommended!

The kit includes a pair of two-piece brake discs, calipers, adapters, street/sport pads, steel-braided hoses, mounting hardware, and an English manual.
Here you will find guidelines for the wheel sizes required to fit our brake kit. Remember, these are general recommendations. Special wheels may differ, and a spacer may be required if the ET is insufficient. We do not take responsibility for fitment on your specific wheels. We have brake templates to test fitment – contact us for this.
Here you will find the typical wheel sizes required for each brake kit:
286mm = 15"
304mm = 16"
330mm = 17"
356mm = 18"
380mm = 19"
400mm = 20"
421mm = 21"
444mm = 22"
You can choose discs in drilled or slotted versions. Choose drilled discs for primarily street use; they are better suited for wet conditions. Slotted discs may generate some noise if used incorrectly (too mild driving with standard pads), but drilled discs do not have this problem.
If you drive mostly on track or have a dedicated race car, you should choose slotted discs. Slotted discs are combined with racing pads. Drilled discs work fine for trackdays but cannot handle sustained hard driving as well as slotted discs.
Street/enthusiast car = Drilled disc. Racing car = Slotted disc.
The included pads are sport pads for spirited street driving and work well for year-round use. If you drive frequently on track, upgrade to D2’s own racing pads or a third-party brand (contact us if unsure). Click here to see pads for our D2 kits.
Calipers come free in purple, black, red, or yellow. Additional colors and finishes are available at extra cost. Special finishes such as chrome, gold chrome, and titanium are also available. NOTE! Chrome, gold chrome, and titanium are show calipers and are not recommended for year-round use.
See the separate menu “D2 Kit Options” under the previous brakes menu, or click here. Here you select caliper color, disc type, floating disc, or race pads. After placing an order on the website, we ALWAYS contact you before ordering/delivery to review your choices and ensure they are optimal.
Some kit sizes are less common and may be slightly more expensive from D2. Therefore, sometimes a smaller size may cost more than a larger one. We give the correct price upfront.
See the kit specifications under “Add to Cart” on the right.
Don’t forget proper brake fluid – we strongly recommend Motul RBF 600 or RBF 700. Related articles also suggest buying caliper paint to match rear calipers if you are not buying a D2 rear kit.
